Loboettes win Area championship

The Levelland Loboettes defeated the Clint Lady Lions 88-43 and  earned the Area championship trophy Friday after a long road trip to Pecos.
With the victory, Levelland improved its season to 33-2 and moved up a place in the state rankings to No. 2. 
As a result of the near two-to-one victory, the Loboettes advanced to the regional quarter-finals of the UIL Class 4A playoffs and face Seminole at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Coronado High School Gym in Lubbock.
Last week, Seminole defeated Fabens 58-41 to claim its golden basketball.
Levelland last faced Seminole   on Feb. 6, when it defeated its opponent 48-28. On January 19, the Loboettes defeated the Seminole ladies 42-35.
The Loboettes outscored Clint 20-10 during the first quarter, 41-19 at half time and 69-31 at the end of the third stanza.
The Loboettes were led by Paige Royal and MaKayla Escue in their victory over Clint. Both players pumped in 24 points. 
Also in double digits were Miranda Villegas, who scored 11 points, and M’Kenzi Campbell pumped in 10 points.
Ten of Levelland’s 14 plays put points on the scoreboard. Also adding to the victory were: Megan Latham and Natalie Velardez, who each scored five points; Allie Latham, who scored four; Mari Ruiz and Kiahra Graves, who each scored two points and Jaycee Hill, who scored one.
