Grand jury returns murder indictments to Faull, Cruz

Matthew Paul Cruz and Cayon Brent Faull, both 20 of Levelland, were indicted for murder Wednesday by a Hockley County grand jury.

The indictment says on or about April 9, 2018, both men caused the death of Matthew Sanchez by shooting him.

The Levelland Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the 100 block of Hickory on April 8, 2018 around 7:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, police found Sanchez lying in the street with life-threatening injuries. Sanchez was transported to a Lubbock hospital by EMS.

The next day, April 9, Sanchez passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting.

Initially Cruz and Faull were charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. However, when Sanchez passed away, their charges were upgraded to murder.

Cruz is being held at the Hockley County Jail on bonds totaling $523,000. Faull is being held at the Hockley County Jail on bonds totaling $505,000.
