The Levelland Police Department announced Sunday that Jaylee Deleon, a 2-week-old baby who was reported missing last week, had been found and her mother, Maria Barrientez was arrested on a charge of kidnapping.
Levelland Police Chief Albert Garcia said Levelland detectives received information about the infant possibly being in the Lubbock area Sunday. Police officers and the Texas Rangers were able to locate the baby in good condition but the mother was not found at that location.
Child Protective Services were contacted and responded to take custody of the baby and provide medical evaluations, Garcia said. A short while later, Lubbock police responded to the 200 block of Avenue O in Lubbock where Barrientez was found and arrested for the outstanding warrant for kidnapping.
Barrientez was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center.
“The Levelland Police Department would like to thank everyone who called to report information that was critical to the successful resolve of this case,” Garcia said.
