The Levelland ISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of a new athletic director following executive session Thursday night.
The board spent 50 minutes in executive session deliberating the hiring of a new athletic director and authorizing employees for the CKC local policy.
Upon coming out of executive session, they approved hiring Andrew Correll as the new head football coach/athletic director for the district.
At the beginning of the meeting, the board heard from a Levelland ISD student, Tobias Sanchez, who requested the board reconsider the hiring of the new athletic director and consider promoting current coach Ty Byrd to the position. There were approximately 20 other students at the meeting in support of Coach Byrd.
Correll is currently serving as the offensive coordinator at Lubbock Monterey. Superintendent Jeff Northern said the district will host a meet and greet for the new coach sometime in the near future for the community and students to meet Correll.
Former athletic director Curtis Lowery accepted the position as head football coach at Godley ISD last month.
