NextEra Energy has announced the completion and now operational wind farm in Cochran County.
The Wildcat Ranch, as it has been named after Abilene Christian University donated the land for the project, began in June 2018 and is now producing energy.
During construction, the project created 250 construction jobs and provided an economic boost to local contractors and businesses. Now operational, the wind farm features 67 GE turbines with the capacity to generate 150 megawatts of low-cost, “homegrown” electricity.
NextEra has signed a 30-year power purchasing agreement with Xcel Energy. It is estimated that economic impact will consist of $50 million in property taxes and $28 million in landowner payments.
