Leslie Cox, the chair of the 78th annual ABC Rodeo announced Tuesday at a press conference that the rodeo in 2020 will be held at the Mallet Event Center in Levelland.
The rodeo is slated for April 2-4, 2020. The chair said the rodeo will remain the same, and will not change.
“It will be the same great rodeo y’all are used to seeing,” she said.
In the past, the rodeo has been hosted at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum, which was demolished earlier this year.
Organizers are calling this the “temporary” location of the rodeo until the Lubbock County Expo Center is completed.
She said there will be less seats than were at the rodeos previous location at the coliseum.
“We knew we would be looking at a reduction of seats,” she said. “The seating is not going to be what it was at the coliseum, no matter where we went around the area…We’re looking outside the box to make this just as successful as the others.”
Cox said the Mallet Event Center facilities will allow the group to do more than it has in the past at its location at the coliseum.
“It’s a great facility for a rodeo,” Cox said. “They have an expo center and an exhibition center we can utilize for booth rental and we will be able to do various things we weren’t able to do at the coliseum. This opens up some of those opportunities and hopefully add a few more elements to rodeo week we weren’t able to do here in Lubbock.”
