Texas Rangers investigate officer involved shooting in Levelland

The Texas Rangers are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred Saturday morning in Levelland.

According to Sgt. Johnny Bures with DPS, special agents with the criminal investigations division of DPS, were executing a search warrant in the 800 block of Avenue C in Levelland around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Agents were assisted by Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office SWAT.

Sgt. Bures said the suspect was the sole occupant inside the home at the time of the search warrant and as SWAT was making entry into the house, the suspect pointed a weapon at one of the SWAT team members. A SWAT member fired at the suspect, striking and injuring him.

The suspect was treated on scene and transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock. The Texas Rangers are conducting an officer involved shooting investigation and DPS special agents are continuing a narcotics investigation related to the search warrant, Sgt. Bures said. 

Sgt. Bures also said the name of the suspect has not been released at this time as it is an ongoing investigation with the Texas Rangers.
