Samuel ‘Sambo’ Garzez

Funeral services for Samuel ‘Sambo’ Garzez, 61, of Levelland will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Levelland, with Fr. Jonathan Phillips officiating and music provided by Johnny Vasquez.
Burial will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery, under the direction of Head Duarte Funeral Home of Levelland.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday,  March 13, at Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel, with the reciting of the Rosary to be held at 7 p.m.
He passed away March 5, 2020, in Lubbock.
Sambo was born June 19, 1958, to Felix Sr. and Eloisa Garces in Mathis, Texas.
He attended high school in Mathis during his younger years.
Sambo worked in construction and in the oil field.  
He enjoyed  classic cars and trucks, listening to music, cooking outdoors, helping people and collecting crosses.
Sambo was a wonderful uncle to his nephews and nieces. 
His memory will be cherished by his family and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Felix Garces, Sr.; and two sisters, Elsa Garces Quezada  and Norma Garces. 
He is survived by his mother, Eloisa Garcia Garces of Lubbock; son, Samuel Garces, Jr. of Albuquerque; daughter, Samantha Garces of Oklahoma; brothers, Felix Garces, Jr. of Taft and Freddy Garces of Lubbock; sisters, Ylma G. Martinez of Levelland and Ida G. Cervantes of Lubbock; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers include: Gilbert G. Farias, Rico Garces, Felix Garces III, Anthonty G. Cervantes, Adam G. Cervantes and Juan G. Quezada.
