Jeff Northern, superintendent for Levelland ISD, released an update Monday regarding services provided by Levelland ISD as schools will remain closed until April 3.
Northern said Levelland ISD administrators from all campuses convened in person and virtually Monday morning to make plans to continue education services for students during this time.
“As has been the case throughout this situation, our best made plans can be changed at any time,” Northern said in the letter. “Levelland ISD will continue to communicate with you frequently to keep you aware of our current status.”
Northern said that districts have still been asked to continue to provide services for students.
“There are implications for parents, students and staff as we tackle this challenge that has been placed upon us,” Northern said. “We are very much aware that this provides an added responsibility to parents.”
In addition, Northern said staff will be quickly converting “in school” instruction to “at home” and “online.”
“This is new to staff as well,” Northern said. “To protect our community, we are all working together to keep everyone safe. Our new online platform will be called ‘Home4Learning.’”
Northern said the current plan is that administration and staff, beginning Tuesday, will officially meet with staff to make plans for various classes. By Friday, principals will communicate via Skylert how each campus will proceed.
“For the most part, we will be moving toward technology to provide instruction,” Northern said.
–A questionnaire will be sent to families electronically to determine if there are some technology and/or internet needs in your home. If so, arrangements can be made for some sharing of equipment. The district does not currently have a device for every child so the information gathered in this survey will help determine the actual needs.
The questionnaire can be completed by going online to https://forms.gle/xPCq8UCGxNJrKgSH8.
If you are unable to complete the questionnaire, please call the office of your child’s school as soon as possible.
–Meals will continue to be served to any student 18 years or younger in the community. Meals may be picked up outside the Levelland Intermediate School cafeteria, located at 1100 Avenue D. Parents are asked to use the bus lane on the west side, door No. 16. Meals are available between 7:15 a.m. and 10 a.m. daily. The Friday meal package will provide for breakfast and lunch for Friday and the weekend.
–Staff will be making phone contact with all students between March 25 and March 30. Information comes from Skyward and it is essential parents have up to date information on Skyward.
“We do not know what the future holds, we will continually plan and put into place what we feel is best for Levelland ISD students and staff,” Northern said. “Thank you for helping us to work through this process in the best way possible.”
