The Texas Department of Health and Human Services will host a mobile testing site Friday in the former Citizens Bank parking lot in Levelland.
The team will be in Levelland from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Residents who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 or who have come into contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 are asked to register online at txcovidtest.org or call (512)-883-2400 to schedule an appointment.
Testing will only be available for individuals who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 or who have come into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever and/or chills, cough (dry or productive), fatigue, body aches, muscle or joint pain, shortness of breath, sore throat, headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, nasal congestion, and loss of taste and/or smell.
Tests will be conducted by appointment only. Tests will begin at 10 a.m. Friday and last through 6 p.m.
Hockley County Judge Sharla Baldridge said this is part of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s initiative to establish widespread testing in order to begin reopening the state’s economy. Baldridge said the team Friday will be able to test up to 150 people in one day.
Governor Abbott announced Monday, April 20 that the Texas National Guard will be mobilizing more than 1,200 personnel as part of COVID-19 Mobile Testing Teams (MTT).
The 45-member teams will be mobilized in various parts of the state by providing greater access to medical testing. The areas for these MTTs have been identified by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) with the first two teams deployed to Fredricksburg and Floresville.
The remaining 23 teams will be deployed to additional locations based on assessments made by DSHS.
Judge Baldridge said the team will be made up of 11 medical workers and 34 National Guard officials. She said the tests should return results within two to three days and those who are tested will be issued a person under investigation (PUI) number and will be notified of their results.
The teams will work for one day in each county and tests will be transported to the lab at the end of testing at 6 p.m.
Testing in Levelland will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the former Citizens Bank parking lot, located at 610 Avenue I. Patients must register to be tested.
If someone arrives for testing that has not registered, they can do so from their cell phone on site.
