Hockley County recoveries surpass active cases

Hockley County Judge Sharla Baldridge received an update from the Department of State Health Services Friday in regards to Hockley County COVID-19 cases.

With Friday’s update, the recoveries from COVID-19 in Hockley County now surpass the number of active cases. As of Friday, Hockley County has 15 patients recovered from COVID-19 with four active cases and one death.

Judge Baldridge also said she received a report from the Mobile Testing Site that was in Levelland last Friday, May 1. She said of the 16 individuals who were tested at the site, zero returned a positive result.

‘I am hopeful that all of these encouraging results we are seeing indicate a downturn in new cases for the county at this point,’ Judge Baldridge said. ‘I believe that social distancing guidelines are working and that because of the cooperation by our community and businesses, and the early actions taken, we are seeing fewer cases reported now.’

She said she is also pleased to see that Texas Governor Greg Abbott is taking steps to safely reopen the Texas economy and get Texans back to work.

‘I am thankful that the Governor is reopening Texas and people are getting back to work,’ Judge Baldridge said.

She reminded residents to stay vigilant with social distancing measures to protect the vulnerable populations in Hockley County.

‘I would encourage everyone to continue to follow social distancing guidelines. Keep in mind that while you may not be in the vulnerable population for this virus, there are a lot of others who are,’ she said.
