Levelland police arrested Alfred Sepulbeda III Tuesday following a traffic stop where Sepulbeda was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and marijuana.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Tuesday an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 200 block of Hickory for an equipment violation.
The vehicle turned south on Sherman Avenue then quickly made a right turn into the north parking lot of an apartment complex in the 200 block of Poplar Street and parked the car.
The front passenger of the vehicle ran from the vehicle as soon as the vehicle came to a stop, according to the affidavit. The driver of the vehicle, Sepulbeda, stepped out of the vehicle.
The officer placed cuffs on the driver and advised him he was being detained, according to the affidavit. Sepulbeda was patted down for weapons and when the officer patted Sepulbeda’s back left pocket, the key fob opened the trunk. Sepulbeda put his chest on the trunk to shut it, according to the report.
The officer asked for consent to search the vehicle, which was denied. A K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene and a trooper with the Department of Public Safety responded. The dog did a sniff of the exterior of the vehicle and had a positive alert, according to the affidavit.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and the officer located a back behind the driver’s seat. The officer detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the bag. A search yielded 6.7 grams of a white powdery substance and approximately a quarter of an ounce of marijuana, according to the report.
In the same bag, the officer found digital scales and a bag containing small, individual bags.
Sepulbeda was charged with possession of marijuana, less than two ounces; and possession of a controlled substance between four and 200 grams. He was transported to the Hockley County Jail where he was held on combined bonds of $11,000. He was released on bail Wednesday.
