Manuela “Ama” Tarango Zapata

Funeral services for Manuela “Ama” Tarango Zapata, 92, of Morton, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, August 17, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Morton, with Father Heriberto Mercado of Muleshoe officiating.

Burial will follow in the Morton Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Eillis Funeral Home of Morton.

Visitation will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 15, and will resume Sunday, August 16, at 7 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home.

She passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020, in Morton.

Manuela was born August 13, 1927, to Roberto and Manuela Orosco Tarango in Candelaria, Texas.

She married Chon Zapata in Candelaria on May 3, 1947.

Manuela was a homemaker and was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Morton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chon; her parents, Robert and Manuela Tarango; a daughter, Aida Zapata; three brothers: Chon Tarango, Lorenzo Tarango and Thomas Tarango; four sisters: Juana Muniz, Olivia Jurado, Emilia Aguirre and Frances Rodriguez; and one grandson, Gilbert Zapata Jr.

Manuela is survived by her six sons: Gilbert Zapata, Placido Zapata, Jose Zapata, Chonito Zapata, Harvey Zapata and Albert Zapata, all of Morton and Mike Zapata of San Angelo; five daughters: Anita Cruz, Estella Enriquez and Dora Enriquez, all of Morton, Lori Zapata and Lupita Cruz, both of Levelland; three sisters: Julia Perez of Odessa, Rita Martinez of Marfa and Eloisa Baeza of Odessa; 30 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
