Funeral services for Arlene Esther Brooks, 85, of Levelland, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Ernesto Lopez officiating.

Interment will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery, under the direction of Head Duarte Funeral Home of Levelland.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 17, from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Tuesday, August 18, from 9 a.m until 9 p.m. at Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel.

During visitation hours, friends and family will pray together and have the reciting of the Rosary at 7 p.m. both nights at Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel.

She passed away August 15, 2020, in Levelland.

Miss Brooks was born November 12, 1934, to Casper and Harriet Brooks in Detroit, Michigan.

She received her Doctoral Degree in education at Texas Tech University.

Miss Brooks was an extension lay volunteer assigned to St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Levelland, August 23, 1963, where she was principal of St. Michael’s School for 19 years.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church for 57 years.

Miss Brooks received the highest honor and award for a Catholic lay person from Pope Paul VI, the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, received March 18, 1973.

She also worked at South Plains Community Action and for LISD at Carver School for more than 30 years.

One of her primary goals was networking for the community of Levelland.

She enjoyed writing poetry and plays, loved caring for animals and excelled at working with families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; and one God daughter.

She is survived by four nephews; one niece; her friend, Philomena Di Gennaro of Levelland; and all the family of friends that she has known for several years.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hockley County Literacy Council and scholarship for the GED and Hockley County Food Box.

Pallbearers include: Carmel Timmons, Cynthia Garcia, Grisenda Munoz, Lucelina Munoz, Elida Osornio, Odelia Garza, Isabel Christina Munoz, Norma Jo Castillo, Terry Christian and Cecilia Castillo.

    My condolences to miss Di and her family she will be greatly missed I remember Miss Brooks and Miss Di from st Michael’s Catholic school and the you also thought my kids at carver love you and such wonderful person you were .
