Funeral services for William Edwin “Bill” Waygood will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, at the Mausoleum Chapel at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock. Pastor D. Jay Lewis of Fairview Baptist Church in Levelland will officiate.

William Edwin “Bill” Waygood, 86, of Palm Springs, California passed away August 16, 2020.

He was born to parents Elsie and Clifford Waygood May 27, 1934, in Thermopolis, Wyoming.

Bill graduated from Sundown High School in 1953.

He married Shirley Burke in 1954, after a long courtship during their school years in Sundown.

After living in Lubbock and Denver, Colorado, they returned to Sundown in 1963, where Bill was employed by Amoco Production Company for 30 years.

He retired on August 3, 1996, and remained active by renovating his home and doing woodwork in his wood shop.

In 2013, he and Shirley moved to Tucson, Arizona and one year later moved to Palm Springs, California.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, serving two years during the Korean War conflict.

During the 1970s, he served for several years on the Sundown ISD School Board.

He was a member and a deacon at Fairview Baptist Church in Levelland.

Bill was an avid fisherman and was very active in his church, serving on a mission trip in the Caribbean as well as leading a Bible Study and Sunday School group for many years.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Michael Gale Waygood.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Waygood of Palm Springs; his daughter-in-law, Barbara Waygood of Levelland; his sons, Ricky Glen Waygood and wife, Vicki, of Sundown and Patrick Shawn Waygood and husband, Robert, of Palm Springs.

He is also survived by five grandchildren: Lori Waygood of Midland, Christopher Waygood of Levelland, Heather Weston of Littlefield, Ryan Waygood of Lubbock and Hannah Tuckett of Minot, North Dakota.

In addition to his grandchildren, he is survived by seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service for family and friends will be announced in late 2020 or early 2021, at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 2012 FM 303, Levelland, Texas, 79336.
