Graveside services for James R. “Slim” Martin, 77, of Lubbock, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 24, in the Petersburg Cemetery with Rev. Susan Felty officiating.
A memorial service will follow the graveside at Canyon United Methodist Church at 217 FM 1729, in Lubbock.
The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 23.
Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy.
Mr. Martin passed away at his home Sunday, October 18, 2020.
He was born April 13, 1943, in Plainview, to J.W. and Agnes Bernice Anderson Martin. James grew up around Petersburg and Kress.
He served in the United States Navy in the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1968.
After serving in the military, James worked in multiple CO-OPs in Petersburg, Lorenzo and Levelland.
He then began working in the oil field for various companies, where he retired after 36 years.
James was an active member of VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fayra Martin; sister, Darla; and a granddaughter, Kassandra Marie.
James is survived by partner, Sherry and family of Lubbock; four children: Billy, of Lubbock, James Allen, of Ransom Canyon, Tim, of Stockdale and Kimberly, of Seguin; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, three great- great-grandchildren; brothers: Orville Martin and Jack Martin, both of Petersburg, Bennie Martin of Dickens and Lynn Martin of Bowie; and sisters: Jerry Ferguson of Monroe, Louisiana and Jeannie Abbe of Ardmore, Oklahoma.
