This Thanksgiving Stephen Rivas is thankful to have the ability to do something for his community and he’s ready to feed as many hungry people as he possibly can Thursday.
Rivas said he has seen a need in the community that he wants to help fill by providing a warm, full, Thanksgiving meal for anyone who wants one Thursday, November 26.
Rivas will have plates available for anyone walking by his home at 110 13th Street, or anyone who would like to call and arrange a pick-up time.
After posting to Facebook earlier this month, Rivas was shocked at the outpouring of support he received for his idea. Shelby Lewis saw the post and reached out to Rivas to see how she could help.
From there, Lewis posted a request to her own Facebook page seeking people to cook certain side dishes to provide for the free meal and it took off from there.
Nearly 20 people signed up to either cook a side dish or provided monetary donations for the effort. In all, Rivas ended up with enough food to feed about 150 people.
Rivas has posted green poster boards on trees outside his house so hopefully anyone walking by will see that there are free Thanksgiving meals available.
“I just want to try to change the world with one small act of kindness at a time,” Rivas said.
Rivas’ home is located at 110 13th Street and anyone who is hungry or doing without this holiday is welcome to go by the home and receive one or more free plates of food. To call and make an arrangement for pick-up, call Stephen at (806) 891-7182.
