June B. Gerstenberger

June B. Gerstenberger, 87, of Levelland, passed away December 6, 2020, in Lubbock.

A memorial service will be held December 28, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.

June was born on August 7, 1933, at Washington on the Brazos, Texas, to Reinhardt and Rosa (Mohr) Goeking.

June developed her impressive work ethic as she grew up on and contributed to the success of her family’s dairy farm.

She graduated from Brenham High School and from Blinn College.

At Blinn, she met and later married the love of her life, Earl Gerstenberger on August 8, 1954, at Washington on the Brazos.

June started her professional career at Blinn as secretary to President Thomas Spencer and College bookkeeper.

She and Earl moved to Levelland July 4, 1958, to begin their service to South Plains College.

After raising her children, June returned to higher education in 1967, as secretary to the registrar.

This position resulted in a 26-year career of assisting SPC students in the registrar’s office and later in financial aid, special services and the business office.

June was most active in the churches she attended. She was a gifted organist, pianist, choir member and soloist.

She had a servant’s heart and helped strengthen the churches in which she was a member by teaching Sunday School, serving on committees and by her faithful attendance.

Most recently, June was a member of the Las Fidelas Study Club.

June and Earl retired from South Plains College in 1993 and began a 27-year adventure that included traveling the world by RV and cruise ship, and usually with dear friends.

June is survived by her husband of 66 years, Earl; her daughter, Sharon and husband, Robert Vaughan; her son, Brian and his wife, Julie, all of Levelland.

Also, by grandchildren: Mike (Jayma) Vaughan and their sons, Andy and Brody; Chris (Lauren) Vaughan and their children: Leilani, Julian, Danica and Ryker; Tamara (Matt) Riley and their sons, Bill and Hank; Tara Dudley and children, Kendyll and Layton; Amy (Zach) Dennis and their children, Ava and Myles; Kayla (Steve) Tucker and their children, Major and Kaydee; and Caleb Johnson and fiancé, Taylor Verhage.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Earl and June Gerstenberger Scholarship Endowment at South Plains College.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Krestridge Funeral Home, 806-897-1111.
