Theta Epsilon receives grant to fill local Blessing Boxes

The local chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Theta Epsilon, recently received an $800 stipend from the Alpha State Texas Educational Foundation (ASTEF) to help fill Blessing Boxes around town.

This stipend will support the four Blessing Boxes that are located in Hockley County.

“At one of our meetings this year, chapter members selected this project as it was a new one for us,” said Chapter President, Donna Pugh. “Grant funds will be used to purchase food items for all four of the boxes in the county.

In addition, members will contribute food items, too.”

Pugh said two members and their families have volunteered to use the funds to purchase items for the Blessing Boxes and keep them stocked through the grant.

“We have been very fortunate to receive support from ASTEF in the past as well,” Pugh added.

In the past, Theta Epsilon has received ASTEF grants for other local projects. These included 1,000 Books before Kindergarten and Bill’s Backpacks. The chapter also completed a service project entitled Let’s Stay Sharp for county school staff during the 2017-18 school year.

Pugh said the group applies for the grant every year to receive funds to give back to the local community.

ASTEF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created for the purpose of providing funding for activities that support and enhance the charitable activities of the Texas State Organization of DKG.
In addition, ASTEF provides funding for activities that support professional and personal growth of women educators in Texas and promotes educational excellence for Texas students.
