James Dale Barter, 70, of Gainesville, formerly of Levelland, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020, in Gainesville.
He was born in January 25, 1950, to Wanda Joy and James Edward Barter in Tipton, Oklahoma.
The family move to Wichita, Kansas, where he graduated from Wichita North High School.
Dale was a United States Army veteran and he served more than 20 years for the Texas Army National Guard in Levelland.
He married Florine Marie Kirkpatrick March 10, 1970.
Dale was a long-time resident of Gainesville, retiring after 10 years with Webber Aircraft.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and tinkering in his backyard shed.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Florine Barter of Gainesville; three sons: Jerry (Karen) Hoelscher of Wylie, Texas, Travis (Susan Baker) Barter of Caldwell, Texas and Mike (Kim) Barter of Levelland; sister, Marcia Mercer of Gainesville; and two grandchildren: Jarrett Scott Hoelscher and Mia Lynn Barter.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, in the Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military funeral honors.
The family requests any memorial donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the American Cancer Society.
