Martha Ann “Bootsye” Barnes, 85, of Levelland, passed from this life December 23, 2020.
Graveside services were held Saturday, December 26, 2020, in the City of Levelland Cemetery.
Bootsye was born on October 29, 1935, in Bluit, New Mexico.
She graduated from Morton High School.
Bootsye married David Barnes April 28, 1963.
She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Levelland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H.C. and Agnes Shakespeare; sister, Jean Wright; and brother, Jimmy Ray Shakespeare.
Bootsye is survived by her husband, David Barnes of Levelland; son, Cory Barnes and wife, Jodi, of Shallowater; grandsons: Jeremy Barnes and wife, Katy and Brody Barnes and Kelby Barnes, both of Lubbock; great-grandchildren, Meredith Barnes and Kannon Barnes, children of Jeremy and Katy Barnes, all of Lubbock; brother, H.L. Shakespeare and wife, Mary, of Levelland; sisters, Sammie Baker of Morton and Barbara Autry of Lubbock; and several nieces and nephews.
Bootsye was a bookkeeper for Keeling Buick, Olds and Pontiac for several years and was awarded an Excellence in Accounting award by General Motors Corporation while employed there.
She later worked in the banking industry for a few years and then worked for Delwin Jones, State Representative for Hockley County.
Bootsye enjoyed taking care of her house and working in her kitchen, especially making chocolate brownies.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and having them visit in her home. They were all a delight and never did anything wrong.
Bootsye was a member of the Rose Garden Club and served as the secretary of the group. She was also a member of the Levelland Lioness Club for several years.
Bootsye will be missed by her family and friends, and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
