Graveside services for Mary Salas, 80, of Morton, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 26, at the City of Levelland Cemetery with Father Jonathan Phillip officiating.
The reciting of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 26, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Morton.
She passed away Monday, February 22, 2021, in Lubbock.
Mary was born April 13, 1940, in Spring Branch, Texas, to Cruz and Trinidad Guerra Duron.
She married Jose Salas in Morton on July 10, 1960.
Mary was the first Hispanic to graduate from Morton ISD.
She attended South Plains College and received her degree in nursing.
Mary was a nurse at Cochran Memorial Hospital for 20 years and was the school nurse for Morton, Bledsoe and Three Way schools for 32 years.
She was very involved with 4-H and taught cooking classes.
Mary also taught Sunday school at St. Ann’s Catholic Church for many years, where she was also a member.
She enjoyed sewing and knitting, but she loved her grandkids and great-grandkids most of all.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jose; sister, Raquel Duron; and brother, Johnny Duron.
She is survived by her three sons: Joe Adrian Salas and wife, Kelly, of Wichita Falls, Albert Salas of Morton and Jorge Salas of Odessa; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
