She graduated from Morton High School in 1964 and went on to attend Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. There, she received her bachelor’s degree in business and her teaching certificate in 1968.

In her professional career, Peggy fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a teacher. She taught for Morton ISD beginning in 1968 until her retirement in 1998.

During that time she served as an English teacher, High School Librarian, and Computer Assisted Instruction teacher.

Peggy was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Morton for most of her life and used her talents as a singer and pianist throughout the years in choir, special music performances and as a substitute pianist.

She is survived by her husband, Charley Silhan; son, Eric Silhan and wife, Kim; daughter, Lesa Hoyl and husband, Brad; daughter, Stephanie Wright and husband, Kristopher; sister, Alice Quiett; sister-in-law, Linda Cheek; and grandchildren: Jacob, Kimberly, Matthew, Samuel, Cooper, Evangeline and Veronica.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Austin and Helen Cheek; brother, William Cheek; brother-in-law, Truman Quiett; and a granddaughter, Brittany Silhan.

A celebration of life service is pending. The family is waiting for her husband, Charley, to fully recover from his extended battle with the effects of the COVID-19 virus. A service will take place after that time.

Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Morton.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Lubbock Heart Hospital and the Lubbock Dialysis Center-Redbud for their dedication and care.
