Funeral services for Phillip Manuel Yruegas, 66, of North Richland Hills, Texas, formerly of Needmore, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Morton with Father Ernesto Lopez officiating and music provided by Joe Flores.
Interment will follow in the Morton Memorial Cemetery in Morton, under the direction of Head Duarte Funeral Home and staff of Levelland.
Visitations and reflections of life will be held from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel, with the reciting of the Rosary to be held at 7 p.m.
He passed away June 26, 2021, in North Richland Hills.
Phillip was born Saturday, February 12, 1955, to Nestor and Tomasita Yruegas in Littlefield.
He graduated from Muleshoe High School and joined the United States Air Force in 1974. He retired as a sergeant in 1978.
Phillip married Martha Duarte September 20, 1975. They had two children from this union.
He worked for more than 25 years for BYK Inc. in Carrollton and several years for Cambridge Lee Company.
Phillip enjoyed playing guitar for his family and friends and cooking outdoors while listening to old country western music including Willie Nelson and George Straight.
He was an ardent lover of music and enjoyed playing pool.
Phillip enjoyed taking Martha for rides on his motorcycle, spending quality time with his son, Clyde, refurbishing their 1964 Ford Falcon, teaching his daughter, Shantel, how to box and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He had a special nick name for each one of his grandchildren.
Phillip also enjoyed taking vacations to Panama City Beach, Florida, every summer with his family.
He was a straight shooter. If he had something to say, he’d say it and wouldn’t sugar coat it.
Phillip played the guitar and sang in the church choir where he was a long-time member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Keller, Texas.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and his two fur-buddies, C. Brown and Beau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nestor and Tomasita Yruegas; two brothers, Jesse and Antonio Yruegas; and a sister, Tina Lopez.
Phillip is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha Duarte Yruegas of North RichlandHills; daughter, Shantel (John) Tellmann of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland; son, Clyde Anthony (Anna) Yruegas of North Richland Hills; sister, Esparanza Nunez of Clovis; brothers: Nestor Yruegas, Jr. of Alice and Joe Yruegas and V.C. Yruegas, both of Roswell; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers include: Michael Duarte, David Duarte, Rosie Barela, Clyde Yruegas, Isaac Yruegas and John Tellmann.
Honorary pallbearers are: Mario Barela, David Carreon and Tino Fierro.
