A Hockley County jury returned a guilty verdict Friday for Brennon Guerra for the May 2020 slaying of Anthony Delgado, after hearing two days of testimony from the state and defense.
After reading the verdict, the jury heard testimony from witnesses for the sentencing phase of the trial. Just before 5 p.m. Friday, the jury sentenced Guerra to serve 55 years and to pay a fine of $10,000.
Guerra was arrested on May 2, 2020, after turning himself into police and confessing to shooting Delgado in the 400 block of N. Cedar.
According to reports, Levelland police responded to the 400 block of N. Cedar around 7 p.m. Saturday May 2, 2020, in reference to shots fired.
Around the same time, police received several calls indicating someone had been shot.
Officers arrived and found a man who appeared to have a single gunshot wound to the torso. The man, later identified as Anthony Valderas Delgado, 31, of Levelland, was transported to Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, where he later died from his injuries.
During the course of the investigation, Garcia said police received a call from a man who said he had shot an individual in the 400 block of N. Cedar and wanted to turn himself in.
Officers located the caller in the 1100 block of Sherman Avenue, identified him as Brennon Guerra, and placed him under arrest.
