Theresa ‘Terry’ Ann Downey Young

Theresa ‘Terry’ Ann Downey Young passed away January 6, 2022.
She was born July 21, 1950, in Abilene, to Joe Mac and Mary Farrington Downey. Two years later, Carol joined their family and never left her side.
Her early childhood was spent in the Chinery outside Hawley, Texas. She and Carol enjoyed an idyllic childhood surrounded by loving parents and a host of doting grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins.
Terry graduated from Bremond High School. Carol and Terry were as close as two sisters could be, ending up raising their families in the same town together with Terry living right behind her mother in Wilson, Texas.
Terry met the love of her life, Lowen Young, Jr. in September of 1970, and married him March 20, 1971.
They spent almost 51 happy years together raising their daughters, Michelle, Angela and Audra and then loving and spoiling their five grandchildren: Kyle, Elizabeth, Kevin, Kathryn and Madison.
Terry’s love for people moved her to become a nurse when her children were about middle school age.
Nursing was a true passion of hers as she was a natural caregiver to anyone she came in contact with. She truly loved helping others and was a blessing to countless people throughout her career, truly loving people as Jesus did. She lived out her faith everyday in the way she loved others.
Terry loved her family deeply and fiercely, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on in whatever they participated in, no matter what the event was. She constantly put others’ needs before her own.
Terry had a deep love for the mountains of Lake City, Colorado, that grew from camping with her own parents as a child and then instilled that same love in her own family that continues on today.
Vacationing with her family and her annual trips with Carol and her mother and all the grandkids were the times she treasured and never took for granted.
You didn’t have to be around her very long to know how much she loved her family or to get her to talk about her daughters, grandchildren, or even her nieces and nephews, Lora, JayMac and David and their own kids.
We all loved her and the laughter she brought with her filled the room. Family was everything to her. Her legacy of love will live on.
Terry is survived by her husband, Lowen; three children: Michelle Moore and husband, Michael, of Levelland, Angela Greenhaw and husband, Greg, of Sundown and Audra Brown of Galion, Ohio; one sister, Carol Yowell of Wilson and her children: Lora, JayMac and David and their families; five grandchildren: Kyle Greenhaw and wife, Makayla, and Elizabeth Greenhaw, both of Lubbock, Kevin Greenhaw of Sundown, and Katheryn and Madison Moore, both of Levelland; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Mac and Mary Farrington Downey; grandparents; and many aunts and uncles.
The family suggests memorials to be sent to the West Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Betty Downey, her dear lifelong friend.
