Levelland police arrested Juan Quezada, 31, around midnight Sunday for several charges, including manufacture, delivery of a controlled substance between four and 200 grams.
According to police, an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 100 block of 2nd Street Saturday around 11:15 p.m. for an equipment violation.
The officer made a passenger-side approach and contacted the driver who was then identified as Juan Quezada.
The officer observed indicators that the driver and passenger were attempting to conceal contraband. The officer also asked the driver if there were any weapons in the vehicle. Quezada said he had a firearm in his boot.
The officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle. The firearm was removed from the man’s boot and the officer proceeded with an outer-clothing pat down.
The officer noticed several items in the man’s pants pocket and asked if he had anything illegal. Quezada turned over a container with suspected methamphetamine, which established probable cause for officers to search the vehicle.
A search yielded a zipper bag in Quezada’s coin pocket with additional suspected methamphetamine, which tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine and weighed 13.92 grams. The second amount weighed 7.09 grams for a total of 20.01 grams of methamphetamine.
Officers also located a prescription bottle that was missing a label containing 34 pills obtainable by prescription only.
Quezada was placed under arrest and charged with manufacture, delivery, of a controlled substance between four and 200 grams, possession of a controlled substance, penalty group four, less than 28 grams, possession of a dangerous drug and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
He is being held at the Hockley County Jail on bonds totaling $18,000.
