Funeral services Joyce “Joy” Faye Washington, 85, of Levelland, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday March 26, at Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Alvin Childers officiating and music provided by Morning Star Church Choir.
Internment followed in the City of Levelland Cemetery, under the direction of Head Duarte Funeral Home of Levelland.
Visitation and reflections of life were held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday, March 24 and Friday, March 25, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.; family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.; visitation resumed Saturday, March 26, from 9 a.m. until service time at Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel.
She passed away March 17, 2022, in Dallas.
Joy was born April 12, 1936, to Welthia L. and Annie V. Jones Wallace, in Lodi, Texas.
She graduated from Fairview High school in Linden, Texas, in 1955.
Joy married Grant Washington, Jr. December 27, 1957, in Levelland. They had five children from this union.
She worked as a school crossing guard for LISD for many years.
Joy was a devout Christian. She attended and ushered at Morning Star Church of Levelland.
Her passion in life was her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Her hobbies were gardening, sewing and cooking
Joy was very friendly and enjoyed life. Her memory will be cherished by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Welthia L. and Annie V. Jones Wallace; spouse, Grant Washington, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters: Norma (Alvin) Childers of Levelland, Shannon Washington Burton of Dallas and Tammie Washington Brown of Killeen; granddaughter she raised, Tyranisha Washington; sons, Grant Washington of Lubbock and Billy Washington of Wichita falls; brother, Freddie Wallace of Richland, Washington; 27 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers include: Kenneth Flower, Patrick Diaz, Derrail Smith, Quincy Houston, Craig Ross and Patrick William.
