Lydia Rodriguez Barrera

Lydia Rodriguez Barrera, 75, of Levelland, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022, in Lubbock.
She was born July 13, 1946, in Bishop, Texas, to Jose Rodriguez and Manuela Garcia Rodriguez.
Lydia married Lionel G. Barrera, Sr. June 7, 1963.
She served as a CNA in healthcare for many years and she was very proud of her certification.
Lydia made a wonderful nurse because she loved helping people. She was a caretaker at heart and she always put others before herself.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, watching her ‘novelas’ on TV, music, dancing and traveling, especially to Las Vegas.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called her “Grandma”.
As a matter of fact, everyone referred to her as “Grandma” and she had many kids she loved and claimed as her very own grandchildren.
Lydia was an excellent cook and a social butterfly. She never met a stranger and could talk to anyone. She spent hours on the phone with her sisters, catching up.
Lydia was a Catholic and attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Levelland.
She is survived by her two sons, Lionel Barrera, Jr. and wife, Miranda, of Levelland and David Barrera and wife, Sundi, of Idalou; daughter, Margaret Masters and husband, Curt, of Levelland; 12 grandchildren: Alyssa Kern (Kris) of Levelland, Lionel Barrera III (Rebecca) of Slaton, Matthew Barrera and Amelia Barrera, both of Levelland, Mallory Barrera (Wes) and Keely Rivers (Trevor), both of Lubbock, Kimberly Masters (Noah) of Levelland, Reagan Barrera (Matt) and Brincent Barrera, both of Lubbock, Sage Barrera and Gunnar Barrera, both of Levelland and Aiden Barrera of Idalou; seven great-grandchildren: Braiden, Lincoln, Lionel IV, Kingston, Jackson, Layce and Stevi; two brothers, Simon Rodriguez and Robert Rodriguez; six sisters: Angela Garza, Manuela Cavazos, Virginia Trevino, Maria Urbina, Gloria Rodriguez and Melinda Garcia; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lionel, on December 22, 2010; a daughter, Cynthia Cortez; her parents; and four brothers: Joe, Richard, Roland and Israel Rodriguez, Sr.
