Deryl Dean Bennett passed away September 14, 2022, in Lubbock.
He was born at home, in the Lone Star Community, four miles north of Loraine, Texas, April 13, 1933, to James Wesley Bennett and Nola Pearl Henderson Bennett.
Deryl graduated from Loraine High School in 1950, and later from Texas Technological College, now known as Texas Tech University, in 1954.
He was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served during peacetime from 1954-1956. After basic training he was stationed in Germany where he finished radio operator and NCO schools.

He worked for Texaco in Andrews before getting into the banking business.
Deryl worked for banks in Morton, Littlefield and Lubbock, where he was head of agricultural lending at American State Bank (now Prosperity Bank). The years with ASB were the best years of his banking career.
He was a life-long Methodist and a member of the Lions for more than 50 years.
Practical to the end, when asked by his daughter Lisa to send a sign from heaven, he replied, “That’s not how I do things. You’ll have to get a sign from your mother.”
