Levelland Parks Department prepares second sled hill event

The City of Levelland Parks Department will be holding a second sled hill event at Lobo Hill beginning Thursday and ending Sunday.

The layout will still include two trails with the lanes being over 160’.

The trails will be open Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 5p.m. The lanes will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Dustin Reichelt, director of parks and cemetery for the city, explained the goal is to hold the sled hill at least two to three times during the winter months.

During the last sled hill, the department blew snow for 36 hours. Reichelt added that this go around the department blew snow for 48 hours straight which appears to be the sweet spot.

When making the trails, the equipment used to clear the lanes would bottom out which is not ideal.

Also, the snow blown on the hill extends to the very top of the hill which it did not during the last event.

With the extra snow sledding could extend into next week depending on the weather conditions.

Updates regarding hours for each day were posted on the City of Levelland Facebook page.

The event continues to be free to the public, first-come firstserved and open to all ages. No outside sleds allowed and children must be able to control the sled to go by themselves.
