The Levelland City Council approved a special event application and resolution agreement for the Fallin’ for the Wallace and Cork & Keg event this upcoming October.
Main Street Director, Kelly Hancock presented the two items to the Council with Executive Director, Alycyn Keeling; Experience and Operations Director, Joleena Carter and Ex-Officio for the Board of Director’s, Iris Keeling in attendance representing the Wallace Theater.
Hancock explained that the Levelland Main Street Program is planning to hold the Main Street Cork & Keg and Fallin’ for the Wallace event Saturday, October 4. It was noted that a parade will be included in the lineup.
The special event application was approved unanimously along with the resolution agreement with TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) regarding the closure of two blocks of state highway.
The event will take place around the downtown square of the courthouse. The festival will showcase local organizations, artists and downtown businesses.
Currently, the plan is to begin with a parade and then head into the festival portion of the event. It will also feature a beer and wine garden and is considered a quality of life event for Hockley County.
The Council shared their excitement with Hancock following the presentation of items regarding the event.
Moving forward Hancock presented an additional item for the Main Street Program.
Council recently allocated $10,000 towards the program from the Chapter 380 grant program set up for businesses in the designated Main Street district.
Main Street received thrre grant requests from two downtown businesses as follows: The Wallace Theater, the group would like to clean and whitewash the exterior bricks and recover the awning on the old HoneyComb Pie Show. The project total is $7,432; requesting $2,000.
Our Stuff is the second and third applicant as the business consists of two physical addresses. The business is wanting to replace an awning and add a second. The project total for both locations is roughly $9,000; requesting $4,000 for both locations.
The grant requests were approved unanimously.
