Anton Centennial Celebration begins Friday, weekend schedule provided

Community members are encouraged to join Anton’s Centennial Celebration this Friday and Saturday as several events are scheduled throughout both days.

Here is a timeline for the events scheduled and what to know.

On Friday, starting at 5:30 p.m. there will be a BBQ in the Park. At 6 p.m. the high school building will be open. At 7 p.m. there will be a special high school graduation ceremony. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. there will be reunions and memorabilia in the practice gym. At 7:45 p.m. there will be a tour of the Anton school. At 9 p.m. there will be a Drag Meet on Main Street.

On Saturday, starting at 7:30 a.m. there will be a 7K run. At 7:30 a.m. vendors will start setting up. The parade line up will begin at 8:30 a.m. Vendors will then open at 9 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Registration will be held at the state from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. All activities will begin at 12 p.m. The cornhole tournament will begin at 12 p.m. at 202 Main Street. Awards for the parade along with announcements and thank you’s will be announced at 12 p.m. A street dance will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The fireworks show will end the day at 10:45 p.m.

Bands are also scheduled throughout the day on Saturday. The bands and times will be listed below: Crystal River Band plays at 1 p.m.

The County Line Pickers play at 2:30 p.m.

Electric Mombo plays at 3:30 p.m.

Renegade plays at 5:30 p.m. Los Perdidos play at 7 p.m. Caprockers play at 9 p.m. Things to know before attending: Bring lawn chairs. A first aid station will be by the Fire Station.

On Saturday, the Anton Museum will be open to the public starting at noon.

On Saturday, the Church of Christ will host a cooling station, a display of Anton families, town history and pictures and free water.

On Saturday, the Anton Senior Citizens will host an Armed Service display, a silent auction, have snow cones and breakfast burritos.

On Saturday, the Anton Park will have bouncy houses, face painting, a dunking booth, rock wall, games and educational booths.

Down Main Street in downtown there will be vendors and food trucks. Remember to visit the Quanah Parker Trail Arrow and the Anton Cemetery.
