Anton FCCLA students state bound

Anton FCCLA students had a successful 2026 Region 1 Leadership Conference with several punching a ticket to compete at state.

The conference was held on Feb. 26-28 at the Abilene Convention Center, featuring competitive events, spotlight projects, and a theme focused on 'Roar and Explore.'

Anton students competing and earning scholarships offer by Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts included: -Uriyah Salsman, first place, Texas Cupcake Presentation, state qualifier, $3500 scholarship; -Kameron McCormick, fifth place, Texas Cupcake Presentation, state qualifier, $500 scholarship; -Isaiah Alafa, Xavius Escobedo, Zack Sias, third place, Texas Toy Design, state qualifier;

-Michael Carlisle, Baking and Pastry, $500 scholarship; -Andrea Sosa, Texas Serving Up Success, $500 scholarship; -Jaylie Garza, Texas Cupcake Presentation, $500 scholarship; -Mylie Carlock, Rylen Cooper, Zian Martinez, and Benjamin Martinez, Connection Team; and -Rachel Adams, Mariah Miller, and Kareley Rosales, Spotlight on Projects.

Projects and competitions for the conference included Baking and Pastry, Career Investigation, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, Fashion Construction, Job Interview, Leadership, Personal Finance: Presented by EVERFI, Say Yes to FCS Education, Teach or Train, Teaching Strategies, Texas Cupcake Presentation, Texas Knife Techniques, Texas Mystery Basket, and Texas Serving Up Success, as well as Family and Consumer Sciences Assessment and Spotlight on Projects.

School chapters, outstanding chapter, advisor and new advisor and Spirit of Advising awards were also presented as well as holding the 2026-27 Region 1 officers election.

FCCLA is a career and technical student organization that functions as an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education curriculum and operates within the school system.

Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through participation in competitive events, becoming involved in community service opportunities, student leadership, and attending leadership conferences, members develop real world skills, explore Career Pathways, and become college- and career-ready.

Each year, Texas has 25,000 plus members who belong to the more than 550 local chapters, with the opportunity to apply for or compete for the more than $1.9 million in scholarships. The organizations is unique in that its programs are planned and run by members and the only career and technical in-school student organization with family as its central focus.
