Candidate forum held at SPC

The Chamber of Commerce and Levelland Emerging & Active Professionals (LEAP) held a candidate forum this past Thursday at the South Plains College Sundown Room.

Challenged county commissioner candidates from Precinct 4, which covers Smyer and Ropesville, as well as the two county judge candidates were invited to participate. The forum was directed by Cristal Isaacks Running for commissioner in Precinct 4 are Jimmy Martin, Bryant Gordon, Darren Robertson and Mike Durrett, with county judge candidates Sharla Baldridge and Chris Obenhaus

Candidates presented information about themselves and qualifications for the office they were running for and then fielded numerous prepared questions as well as questions submitted to the Chamber prior to the forum. Each had three minutes to answer each question.

Early voting continues through Feb. 27, with Election Day on March 3 being the final day to cast a ballot in the primary election. Early voting locations include Hockley County Election Office, Ropes City Hall, Anton City Hall and Sundown City Hall.

Election Day locations include Pct. 11 & 16, Christ Methodist Church; Pct. 14, Ropesville City Hall; Pct. 15, Gary Cane Insurance in Smyer; Pct. 21, Mallet Event Center; Pct. 24, Sundown School Foyer; Pct. 32, 33, 35, 36, Hockley County Tax Office; Pct. 43, Whitharral Lions Club; Pct. 44, Anton City Hall; Pct. 45, St. Michaels Catholic Church, Levelland; and Pct. 46, Smyer Elementary.

Under Texas law, voters who possess one of the seven acceptable forms of photo ID must present that ID at the polls when voting in person Should there need to be Primary Runoff Election, it will be will be held on May 26.
