CATALYTIC CONVERTER STAMPING

The Levelland Police Department (LPD) and the South Plains Theft Task Force partnered with Quick Lane in Levelland to host a free catalytic converter stamping on July 19. There were 32 vehicles and 62 converters stamped during the event. Stamping is a unique identification number, often a vehicle’s VIN, etched onto the catalytic converter. This deters theft by making the part traceable and less attractive to thieves looking to sell stolen converters for scrap. With a positive turnout, the LPD intends to host a similar event. A date has yet to be determined and will be announced on the LPD’s Facebook Page. Pictured is LPD Chief Erica O'Bryon stamping a vehicle.
