The Levelland Fire Department will be getting a new fire chief following an announcement by the City of Levelland.
Brian P. Horton, who comes with more than 35 years of fire service experience, will be sworn in on April 13 and begin his duties leading the LVD on April 14.
Horton will be picking for interim Fire Chief Patricia Byars-Faulkner, who had retired before being asked to lead the LFD in 2024 as the city searched for a new fire chief.
Horton’s most recently served as fire chief for the City Malakoff and previously held leadership roles with the City of Ferris, including fire chief and chief of operations.
During his tenure at Ferris, he led a revision of departmental policies and procedures, achieved a 100% score on a Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) inspection audit in 2020, and over saw the update of the city’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan in April 2022.
He also served as fire chief for the Ferris Fire Department in Texas and Emergency Management coordinator for Ferris and Ellis County.
“The City of Levelland looks forward to the leadership and expertise Chief Horton will bring to the department,” said City Manager James Fisher. “Horton’s extensive leadership experience and proven commitment to operational excellence will support the continued strength and safety of Levelland’s fire services.”
The public is invited to the swearing-in ceremony on April 13 at Levelland City Hall.
