Commissioners holds regular meeting

The Hockley County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday for its regular meeting and approved all action items.

Commissioners approved the minutes for the Jan. 19 meeting as well as approving monthly bills and claims through Feb. 2 and the cancellation of the Jan. 26 meeting due to weather and closure of the courthouse. Commissioners approved the GMP contract from Teinert Construction for the Hockley County Elections Office to be located at 710 Ave. H. Teinart utilizes Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contracts to establish a set ceiling on project costs, ensuring budget certainty by covering actual costs plus a fixed fee.

Commissioners approved the Resolution allowing the Hockley County Sheriff to apply for the Sheriff Immigration Law Enforcement Grant Program, SB 8. SB 8 establishes a grant program supporting sheriffs who have entered into certain kinds of immigration law enforcement agreements with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The amount of grant money awarded to a sheriff is based on population of the county the sheriff serves, which for Hockley County is $80,000 for a population of 99,999 or less.

Grants may used to pay the costs associated with participating in the agreement that are not reimbursed by the federal government.

In other business, commissioners approved advertising for bids for inmate telecommunication service which include tablets and telephone service for inmates and for commissary services for the Hockley County Jail.

In other action, commissioners approve accepting the Certificate of Completion awarded to Hockley County clerk Jennifer Palermo and the Continuation Certificate for Nicole Shelley, Mallet Event Center.
