Election deadlines approaching for mail-in voting

Time is running out for Texas voters to register for the upcoming Nov.4 elections.

The ballot will have 17 constitutional amendments and local propositions specific to counties and cities.

Texas voters need to be registered to vote by Oct. 6 and the day to submit an address change for the general election.

Voters can report an address or legal name change online. This should be done for those who have moved since the last time they voted, especially if moving to a different county or political subdivision.

Residents of Texas can see if they are registered and verify their information through the Texas Secretary of State’s website. Three things will be needed including a Texas driver’s license number and date of birth, first and last name and county residing in and the Voter Unique Identifier that appears on the voter registration certificate.

The last day to apply to vote by mail is Oct. 24, and the ballot must be returned or postmarked by Nov. 4, unless from an overseas voter.

Texans who are registered to vote and wish to vote by mail must meets specific requirements including being 65 years or older by election day, cite and sickness or disability preventing in- person voting, will be out of county for the entire election period, are expected to give birth withing three weeks before or after an election, confined to jail, but otherwise eligible and registered in the county they lived in before incarceration, and not convicted of a felony, and college students registered at a residence in Texas, such as a parent’s home, but studying out of state can apply for absentee ballots.
