Jan. 14
Fire Department was dispatched to the 1300 block of Houston regarding call from location that alarm was going, but no smoke or problems. Crew checked the facility and found no issues, reset alarm and returned to station.
Fire Department was dispatched to the 600 block of Holly regarding gas line being hit by backhoe. Crew investigated area to determine possible dangers and monitored the scene until Atmos arrived and cleared crew. Unit returned to station.
Jan. 16
Fire Department B-14 dispatched to the 3900 block of Hwy 62/82 north of Ropesville regarding an unknown type of fire. Caller stated flames could be seen on the right hand side of highway. Dispatch advised that Wolfforth and Ropesville Fire Departments were also enroute. Upon arrival to area, all departments were unable to locate any type of fire. Areas in all directions from reported area were checked. Units returned to station.
Jan. 17
Fire Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of 1st St. regarding a fire alarm. While units enroute, dispatch advised response was canceled due to false alarm activation. Units returned to station.
Fire Department was dispatched to the 1300 block of 4th St. regarding the smell of gas in the area. While enroute, eight additional locations called. Crew was unable to locate gas leaks and were advised there was an issue at Mallet Event Center and flares in the area had not been burning off excess gas.
Fired Department was dispatched to 1700 block of McKinley St. regarding multiple gas odor calls, with 40 separate calls coming in from the same general area and with each handled independently and crews conducting investigations using gas detection and atmospheric monitoring equipment. Reading were within normal limits on all responses, both exterior and interior when possible. Crew also evaluated for signs of damaged gas lines, malfunctioning equipment, or other hazardous conditions. Reporting parties were advise to contact LFD or utility provider if conditions changed or odors persisted. Units cleared and returned to station.
Jan. 19
Fire Department E-8 was dispatched to the 1000 block of Alamo Rd. regarding a possible gas leak inside an apartment. Caller state smelling gas and hearing a hissing noise. Upon arrival Levelland Police Department units were on scene and located exact apartment. Crew made contact with occupant of apartment who stated hearing off and on hissing coming from the hot water heater closet. The water heater was determined to be electrical. Gas monitor was used inside and outside of apartment with no hazardous readings. Crew found no hazardous conditions. E-8 cleared the scene and returned to station.
Jan. 20
Fire Department was dispatched to the 2300 block of Mockingbird regarding the need to force a door open to remove a 1-year-old male child from a room. Crews found the door handle had malfunctioned and was broken. Upon turning handle harder, crew was able to open to door. Homeowner advises they would be changing the door handle immediately. Scene was cleared and unit returned to station.
