The Wallace Theater hosted an enchanting music when world-renowned pianist Piotr Folkert performed for Levelland this past Friday evening.
A Steinway artist who has performed in world-class venues including Carnegie Hall, Folkert is celebrated for his refined interpretations spanning from Baroque to contemporary works. His career includes festival appearances across Europe, Asia, and North America, royal performances, and recordings.
Folkert has spent a lifetime perfecting his talent and mastery of his art. He received his master’s degree from The Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland. After winning several competitions for young pianists, he continued his studies at Yale University in New Haven, Indiana University in Bloomington and The Mannes College of Music in New York City.
Folkert said he has spent a lifetime developing and continuing to perfect his skill as a pianist, starting at 6 years old when his mother encouraged him and his siblings to take piano lessons. His passion expanded, leading him to a brilliant career.
In addition to his concert tours and performances, Folkert and his wife, Dorato Lato, have a music school and conservatory, where he gives lessons to many young hopefuls. Additionally, the pair have done summer sessions in Paris and Vienna. Fokert also judges classical music competitions.
Inspiring young people is important to Folkert, who spoke to, answered questions and performed for local elementary students from LISD Capitol and South elementary schools. He said he hopes to open their minds to the possibilities and new horizons.
For aspiring musicians and pianists, he said as important as talent is, it extremely important “to be serious and work hard. It is a long road and very difficult to reach excellence.”
Folkert said he enjoys the work of many of the great composers, and particularly those from Poland, includes Chopin among the many other great talents.
