Hancock distributes city, county sales tax revenue

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced he will be sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for September, 5.3 percent more than in September 2024.

These allocations are based on sales made in July by businesses that report taxes monthly.

Locally in Hockley County, Levelland received $493,577, up by 11.77 percent over last the same period in 2024.

Opdyke West jumped by 654.65 percent, receiving $2,640; Anton received $8,879, up by 4.23 percent.

Ropesville saw a big increase of 35.84 percent in sales tax revenue, receiving $16,986.

Smyer and Sundown lost ground, with Smyer decreasing in tax revenue from last year by -16.27 percent, receiving $5,946, and Sundown dropping by -11.96 percent, receiving $33,054.

In Cochran County, Morton increased 32.52 percent and received $14,515; Whiteface dropped by -12.49 percent, receiving $2,844.

Statewide, cities received $755.2 million, up 3.4 percent from last year. Counties received $78 million, an increase of 10 percent; transit systems, $253.6 million, an increase of 6.3 percent; and special purpose districts, $123 million, up 12.5 percent from last year.

Total payments year to date are $6,78 billion, compared to last year’s figure of $6,50 billion, a 4.22 percent increase.
