The Hockley County Commissioners Court held a regular meeting on Monday to discuss the disposal of out of date items at the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).
The HCSO wanted to declare items as salvage, which means items are of no use to them, no use to the court, and no use to anybody else that they couldn’t sell at auction. The items will have to be disposed of in the correct format.
The Court was given an itemized list that the sheriff’s office has to check off every year. Some of the items listed were partitions for 2008 Tahoes, 2024 trucks, Coban camera systems, and car and body cameras that they will never use again. With the transition to Axon, it was noted that the old equipment is obsolete.
Before the HCSO can auction off the vehicles, they have to pull all the hardware out of the equipment which has been sitting in the women’s building since before 2017.
An item that was brought up was the tasers which are waiting for approval to be released. Once they are released, the department has to find a place where they can donate them.
The rest of the equipment that is currently in storage will be sent to a dumpster. Any equipment that can store data will have to be destroyed first before it can be sent to the dumpster.
The Court decided to table the list, so they can get a precise itemized list as to what has to be salvaged and what can be sent to the dumpster.
