Hockley, Cochran grand jury’s return indictments

The 286th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced that a Hockley County and Cochran County grand jury each returned six indictments for the month of June.

Jesse Palma Lopez, 43, was charged with assault on a family member by impeding breath or circulation with a previous family violence conviction On or about May 23, Lopez, intentionally, knowingly and recklessly caused bodily injury to a member of the defendant’s family or member of the defendant’s household.

Vershad Macwyatt Cornish, 35, was charged with tampering or fabrication of physical evidence with the intent to impair the court.

On or about April 15, Cornish, knowing that an offense had been committed, namely, assault and/or criminal trespass, altered or destroyed a record or thing, namely, a Ring camera, with intent to impair it verity, legibility or availability as evidence in any subsequent investigation of or official proceeding related to the offense.

Richard Ornelas, 18, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

On or about February 12, Ornelas, intentionally, knowingly and recklessly caused bodily injury by striking and the defendant used or exhibited a deadly weapon, namely a firearm, during commission of the assault.

Ornelas was also charged with burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit other felony court.

On or about February 12, Ornelas, intentionally and knowingly entered a habitation, without the consent of the owner and committed the offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against the owner.

Noah Ornelas, 17, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

On or about February 12, Ornelas, intentionally, knowingly and recklessly caused bodily injury by striking and the defendant used or exhibited a deadly weapon, namely a firearm, during commission of the assault.

N. Ornelas was charged with the burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit other felony court.

On or about February 12, N. Ornelas, intentionally and knowingly entered a habitation without the consent of the owner and committed the offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Daniel Rivera, 35, was charged with the possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams.

On or about February 10, Rivera intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely, methamphetamine in an amount of one gram or more but less than four grams.

Jorge Luis Sanchez-Gonzalez, 42,was charged with continuous sex abuse of a child under the age of 14.

On or about January 11, 2024, Sanchez-Gonzalez, committed at least two acts of sexual abuse against a child younger than 14.

Gabriel Villarreal, 45, was charged with the possession of a controlled substance penalty group one of more than one gram but less than four grams.

On or about April 25, Villarreal, intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely, methamphetamine, in an amount of one gram or more but less than four grams.

Luis Estrada Lopez, 57, was charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group one of more than one gram but less than four grams.

On or about January 5, 2024, Lopez, intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely, methamphetamine, in an amount of one gram or more but less than four grams.

Jesus Manuel Fuentes, 34, was charged with the assault of a family or household member with a previous conviction, if at trial.

On or about February 19, Fuentes, intentionally, recklessly and knowingly causing bodily injury of the defendant’s family or member of the defendant’s household or person with whom the defendant had or has had a dating relationship.

DeShawn Fitts, 30, was charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group one less than one gram.

On or about March 18, Fitts, intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely, methamphetamine, in an amount of less than one gram.

Christopher Kirk Berryhill, 52, was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Misty Dawn Cruz, 45, was charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group one less than one gram.

On or about February 10, Cruz intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely, methamphetamine, in an amount of less than one gram.

Emmanuel Moreno, 34, was charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group one of more than one gram but less than four grams.

On or about March 16, Moreno, intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely, methamphetamine, in an amount of one gram or more than less than four grams.
