Hockley Stock Show kicks off Jan. 20

The Hockley County Junior Livestock Show will get underway next Tuesday at Mallet Event Center, promising four days of youth exhibitors presenting the best goats, lambs, swine, rabbits and cattle the county has to offer.

Youth exhibitors in Hockley 4-H and FFA chapters from Levelland, Ropes, Sundown, Anton and Whitharral are expected to compete after months of hard work preparing for stock show season, along with the many parents , ag teachers and leaders who support these young people in their livestock projects.

The event kicks off on Jan. 20 with the Market Goat Show at 10 a.m. which includes the senior and junior showmanship classes.

The Lamb Show will follow the goat competition with classes that include fine wool, Southdown, medium wool, Dorper and Crossbred. Judge for both those shows is Dustin Coufal.

The Rabbit Show will get underway on Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. with Kodie Hoover judging. Classes will include junior and senior commercial does, junior and senior fancy does and bucks, meat pen, and junior and senior showmanship.

The Ag Mechanics Show will also be held on Jan. 21 beginning at 1 p.m. Classes include welding outdoor/furniture, cookers/ smokers, farm and miscellaneous;woodworking - outdoor and indoor furniture, farm and miscellaneous; and trailers.

The Heifer Show will begin on Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. followed by the Market Steer Show, both judged by Steven Kennedy.

The Heifer Show classes will include junior and senior American, British and Exotic breeds. The Steer Show classes will feature American, British, AOB and Crossbred livestock. Junior and senior showmanship will follow the Steer Show.

The Market Barrow Show begins at 9 a.m. on Jan. 22. Multiple classes include Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, Poland, Spot, Yorkshire and Crossbred, followed by junior and senior showmanship. Judge for the Barrow Show is AJ Genter.

The Buyers Lunch will be held on Jan. 24 at 11:30 a.m., followed by the awards and sale at 12:30 p.m. The Ag Project Sale Silent Auction ends at 2:30 p.m.
