Levelland City Council set to confirm new LPD chief

The Levelland City Council is set to confirm a new Police Chief at the November 18 regular council meeting.

City Manager James Fisher will propose Erica O’Bryon be confirmed as the next Police Chief for the City of Levelland.

O’Bryon is a 19-year law enforcement veteran, having served in New Mexico and Texas in a variety of roles.

O’Bryon is currently employed by the Elm Ridge Police Department, where she has served as Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain, where she oversees the Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol Sergeants, Community Relations, and Civilian Personnel. She has built critical inter-agency partnerships and fosters community trust through open and transparent communication.

Having graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M-Commerce with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, O’Bryon is set to receive her Master’s in Public Administration from Tarleton State University in December 2024.

Additionally, she holds a Master Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and is an honored graduate of the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration’s 60th School of Executive Leadership, where she received the Dr. Tory Caeti Award for Academic Excellence.

O’Bryon is married and has two teenage children. With a passion for animals, she enjoys spending time on her family’s small hobby farm raising dairy goats, chickens and cows.

The city received approximately 40 applications for this position, conducted extensive interviews with five candidates (there were two community panels made up of community leaders and citizens), and narrowed their focus to two finalists. After additional interviews with City Council and staff, O’Bryon was selected to be the City of Levelland’s next Police Chief.
