Levelland Independent School District was presented by 10 teams this past weekend as they competed in the Northwest Plains Regional Destination Imagination Tournament. LISD’s Destination Imagination coordinator, Alexis Gavina said Destination Imagination is an international program that offers students the opportunity to compete in hands-on STEAM challenges that develop critical 21st-century skills, including creative problem-solving and resilience which incorporate skits and acting and teamwork.
“We are proud that four of our DI Teams will be moving on to the Lone Star State competition,” said Gavina. “Thank you to the administration that supports this program for all of our DI Lobos, from LABC to high school”
LISD teams attending included:
A.T.F. (At the Function), Levelland High School, competed in Improvisation and placed second, were coached by Sandy Billington. DI-nosauros competed in engineering placed first and will advance to the state finals, They are coached by Lorena Sanchez.
Representing Levelland Middle School were the Sparkly Cute Mermaids that are Ninjas who competed in Technical Challenge, won High IC, placing third and earning the Bonus Bid to advance to the state finals. They are coached by Olivia Magee The Fuzzy Dinosaurs competed in Fine Arts and won High IC, placed 2nd, and will advance the state finals. They are coached by Alison Dawn. The LMS Dinosaurs, coached by Brian Luna, competed in Fine Arts and placed seventh.
Capitol Elementary was represented by the Marshmallow Disasters who won High IC, placed first and will advance to the state finals, and the NBA Disasters, who placed third. Both competed in Improv and were coached by Barbara Utley and Pam Alexander.
South Elementary was represented by the Super Bananas who competed in Fine Arts and placed fifth. They are coached by Kris Stecklein and Brittany Richards. The Pink Panthers earned a medal in Rising Stars and are coached by Shari Straley.
The Blue Jumping Cheetahs represented Levelland ABC, earning a medal in Rising Stars. They are coached by Melissa Cantu.
