Local vets asked to participate in America250

Hockley and Cochran County veterans are invited to participate in sharing their stories and photos with the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) so they can be honored in the America250 commemorations, a nationwide effort to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The Texas America250 Commission is encouraging Texans to plan and participate in different events that honor the nation’s history. The TVC wants to make sure veterans are a part of that celebration.

“A big part of that is military service and veterans after military service,” Jim Halbrook, a spokesman for TVC, explained. We want to make sure in this national celebration that Texas veterans are included in that commemoration.”

Veterans can submit their stories by filling out the “Why I Served Survey.” The survey will be open until 5 p.m. on Jan. 5. The commission said it will create some type of traveling or digital exhibit to “showcase the service and sacrifices of military veterans.”
