McWhorter’s uninvited bee swarm

Johnny and Evelyn Ridener found thousands of bees cooped together outside McWhorter’s tire shop.

Mr. Ridener said the bees had been there for a few days now, and they haven't moved from that spot. They plan to leave them alone and let nature take its course. Local pest control told the Rideners that they are likely protecting the queen. They would also vibrate their wings quickly to produce heat to keep the queen warm without the protection of a hive.

The Rideners believe the reason they chose that spot on the tire shop is because they receive a lot of sunlight there, and that’s when bees are most active. “There wasn’t a bee moving at all,” Mr. Ridener said. “But when the sun came out for a bit, they kind of woke up and started moving around.” The Rideners will keep watch on the bees to see how long they stay or when they decide to take off.
