Hockley County's new county extension agent, Amber Lambright, will start work on July 6, Hockley County extension agents work out of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Office in Levelland, which provides the local agricultural community with research, resources, and training.
Lambright will be j oining the three current county extension agents in Hockley County who are responsible for overseeing the AgriLife program and providing decision-making leadership. Lambright's position deals specifically with overseeing 4-H and youth development.
She describes her role in an interview as “coordinating all 4-H activities and volunteers that work with our youth.”
Lambright has been involved with 4-H for the last four years and has served as a 4-H coordinator in Andrews County for the last two and a half years. Prior to that, she worked as a school teacher.
“I’ve always enjoyed working with youth and seeing growth in youth,” she says Originally from West Lubbock County, Lambright accepted the position in Hockley County to be closer to family.
When asked what her goals were as the new extension agent of Hockley County, Lambright expressed that she’d “love to grow the program so that more youth are involved.”
“I’d also like to increase the number of banners (or ribbons) at competitions. I want them to have those validations. When kids do well, they’re growing as leaders.”
Lambright has already been approved by the county commissioners and judge and has had the opportunity to meet with all the other Hockley County extension agents. She is looking forward to taking up her position early next month
